The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center Department of Medicine was formally established in 1975 and has been in the forefront of excellence in adult care medicine. There is a fairly large number of patients regularly seen and a significant portion of these patients are suffering from endocrine diseases. The main bulk of which is diabetes mellitus, followed closely by the diseases of the thyroid. Other general endocrine diseases, including diseases of the pituitary, the adrenals, the bone and mineral systems, as well as the reproductive system, are also seen among these patients. Due to this extensive load of clinical cases, the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism has decided to start a fellowship training program that will enable the Section to provide better patient care as well as provide opportunities for physicians, including trainees, to further their knowledge and clinical acumen.

The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, under its Chairman, Dr. Ruby Go, and Training Officer, Dr. Lora May Tin Hay, started its fellowship training program in June 2014. Subsequently, the program was granted full accreditation by the PSEDM in July 2015. In line with improving the training program as well as patient care, the Diabetes and Endocrine Center was inaugurated in November 2014.

In 2019, Dr. Rebecca Lim-Alba took over as the section head and Dr. Lora May Tin Hay retained her position as training officer. At present, the members include Dr. Ruby Go, Dr. Mary Anne Lim-Abrahan, Dr. Sjoberg Kho, Dr. Cristina Chua, Dr. Mary Jane Tanchee-Ngo, Dr. Michelle Co, Dr. Mark Henry Joven, Dr. Annette Chua, Dr. Melissa Claire Uy, Dr. Florence Gan and Dr. Hanah Ruiz Go.
